Golf Schools FAQs

There are so many golf schools from which to choose. How do I know which one is best for me?

Obviously the answer to this will depend mostly one what you are looking to accomplish, and what you can afford. That said, there are a wide variety of golf schools and golf courses out there, so you should be able to find one that fits your needs if you put in the time. Of course, in some cases, this might require a bit of travel, which can complicate things.

As you determine which school is best for you, it’s not a bad idea to contact current or former students to get a sense of their experience there. Consider also the duration of the course, and what you can manage with your schedule. If you are able to combine golf instruction with a dream vacation, that might be one way to justify the costs of traveling to and paying for a top tier school. If you are just looking to have some kind of event for Saturday afternoons, something more local and affordable is probably a better option. Ask former students and browse around online until you find the course best suited to your needs.

Is it possible to bring my spouse or a friend along with me to a golf school if he or she doesn’t play?

It will depend on the course—both whether this is allowed, and how appealing it will be for the person if he or she does not want to play. However, many schools feature a clubhouse of sorts with a restaurant, pro shop, and practice putting area. This can be a relaxing way to spend a few hours—just make sure the person you are bringing along consents to it beforehand. Even if your spouse hasn’t tried golf before, he or she might be interested in getting started. A class can be a great way for a beginner to make meaningful strides, even if you have to enroll in separate courses.

I would like to start golfing but I don’t own my own clubs. What are my options?

Often clubs will be provided by the golf course, sometimes even at no cost if you are a member. Generally, though, renting a set of clubs will set you back something like $20 to $30 dollars. If you are a new golfer, trying this before you commit to buying clubs can be a great idea so that you can get a more complete sense of which clubs might work best for you. However, if you do this so many times, it might end up being more affordable to buy your own clubs rather than pay the fee every time.
